Website / Frubalia - Uncle Tobys Roll-Ups

The guys over at Soap have launched Frubalia (working with Morph Marketing) to promote the rebranding of Uncle Tobys Roll-Ups.

Nice execution, engaging games (even for non-kids) and fast load-times. Cool stuff.

Website / Moo - Flickr Minicards

Site developed for people to print their photos straight out of Flickr onto minicards - similar to business cards.

The cards can all be different, can have customised logos as well as text.

Interesting site which uses video to great effect. Humorous stories promote the 'side effects' campaign angle.

Website / RTA - Pimp Our Ads

The task: Create a road safety poster for young people in NSW, to persuade them to look after themselves and their mates on the road.

How: The RTA have developed a tool for users to select an image from an existing library, add type elements, graphics and colour and submit the piece to the competition. The winner takes home a Toyota Yaris and has their poster printer.

Pretty good little tool that loads fast and has a certain engagement factor. Will be interesting to see the uptake of this campaign given the subject matter - is it compelling for 18-30 year olds or not?

Typography / To Helvetica and back (FontShop Feed)

The crew at FontShop themed their latest news feed around Helvetica and its alternatives - Worth a read

"Helvetica™ is everywhere. Still, we can’t deny its status as a classic. It truly deserves the title role in the first feature-length documentary about a typeface, and it’s no surprise that it took the #1 spot on FontShop Germany’s Best Fonts of All Time. But Helv isn’t always the right sans for the job..."

Product / Apple iPhone

The amazing new Apple iPhone has been previewed at MacWorld. The new Wi-Fi phone is a portable version of OS X with features that include music and video (iPod), Internet (Safari), impressive phone characteristics, widget integration, mail, calendering and so forth. Apple has also partnered with Yahoo! and Google to incorporate Maps, email and search functionality.

The interface (3.5 inch screen) has redefined usability on handheld devices using clever hand actions such as 'finger pinching' and 'flicking' to navigate through a visually rich menu system. iTunes users will be familiar with the music interface pulling largely from iTunes 7 (not suprisingly).

Unfortunately the phone will only be available in Australia from 2008 and at present is scheduled to come in 2 sizes, 4 and 8 gigabyte.

The interesting thing for us as advertisers will be the opportunity new rich-media devices will offer.

Article / The dollars will follow (The Australian - IT)

Another interesting article on social networking. How to convert large numbers of users with small revenue into viable offerings - something beyond a phenomenon.

"IT is the sheer pace of growth that is astounding. Piczo will be an unfamiliar name to many readers, yet in just 13 months this networking website for teenagers has grown eightfold, increasing its number of users from 1.2 million to 10.5 million."
