Here is a handy tip for structuring your Photoshop layers and folders so that you can to distinguish between a "Layer" and a "Folder" with one click.

When creating a new folder, start by naming it with an asterisk "*". This way, when you right click on the stage (ctrl + click for MAC), you can tell which item is a layer or a folder. See diagram:

If you are really pedantic (like me) you can even use the "*" to distinguish which folders are a sub level eg "** Sublevel".
